Qualifications:
Minimum three years experience in school bus transportation services.
Ability to multitask and work well under pressure while remaining professional and responsible at all times.
Ability to foster and maintain positive and effective working relations with teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents, and the community.
Must be able to perform in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
Experience managing transportation operational expenditures by means of budget, purchasing, and payroll.
Commercial driver license Class B with passenger and school bus with school bus permit.
POSITION
Summary:
The Director of Transportation plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students within the school district.
The director oversees all aspects of the transportation department, including fleet management, route planning, personnel supervision, licensure compliance, and compliance with safety regulations.
PERFORMANCE
Responsibilities:
Operations Demonstrate support for the vision, mission, beliefs, and goals of Fremont School District 79.
Establish and achieve performance goals that align with department and district goals.
This includes promoting a strong safety culture and monitoring safety processes and training.
Foster and maintain a positive work environment that encourages and promotes employee success.
Foster and maintain positive and effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents, and the community.
Plan, direct, and supervise the entire transportation department to ensure students are transported to and from school in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner.
Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for operating the school bus fleet in collaboration with bus mechanics.
Make sound and viable recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations to resolve issues, ensuring compliance with district policies and local/state/federal regulations.
Communicate with staff the long and short-range objectives and goals to improve the operations of the transportation department.
Communicate changes in routes and scheduling to stakeholders when applicable.
Respond in a timely manner to stakeholders, including school personnel and parents.
Maintain all transportation systems, maps, documents, etc.
relating to existing transportation systems.
Collect, process, and file all required transportation records with local, state, and federal agencies, including the state annual transportation report.
Develop and administer in-service transportation safety programs for bus drivers, teachers, students, and building administrators, including annual bus evacuation drills.
Supervise the development and implementation of student bus routes.
Policy, Reporting, and Laws Maintain the strictest confidentiality required by laws, regulations, policies, and directives established or provided by the Board of Education, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.
Assures and demonstrates compliance with established laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures.
Compile, maintain, and file transportation records and documents as required.
Student Management Assist in implementing the district's student behavior policies and ensure that expectations about appropriate behavior are communicated to students.
Investigate reported student concerns in a timely manner and report to building administrators for student discipline action.
Manage bus camera footage requests from district administrators.
Personnel Management Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Investigate and report all bus accidents to the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations in a timely manner.
Manage performance improvement and disciplinary actions in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations and the Executive Director of Human Resources.
Recommend employment and dismissal of transportation department personnel.
Ensure that employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process transportation payroll is delivered to the Business Office in a timely manner.
Safety Maintain and enforce safety standards that align with state, federal, and insurance regulations.
Organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment.
Ensure transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition.
Assess road conditions and hazards and advise the administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in delayed starts or the closing of schools.
Professional Growth and Development Attend training as it relates to professional growth and development.
Other Qualities/Responsibilities Perform any duties within the scope of employment as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.
Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Operate a school bus as needed.
Participate in District Administrative meetings when required.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the District evaluation model.
